June Newsletter
Below are highlights in the June Newsletter, full newsletter is in a link below.
Dear MWMS Families,
As we enter the final two weeks of the school year, I want to thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we have made this a year filled with growth, achievement, and memorable experiences for our students.
As we finish strong, attendance is more important than ever. Every day matters, every class matters, and every minute counts. Our teachers are actively teaching, students are actively learning, and important learning experiences, projects, assessments, celebrations, and opportunities are taking place right up to the last day of school. Please help your student arrive on time and attend school every day possible during these final weeks.
At many schools, the last days of the year can feel like a countdown to summer. Not at Marcus Whitman Middle School. Here at MWMS, we are proud to be the home of some of the hardest-working students in the South Kitsap School District, the City of Port Orchard, and the State of Washington. Our commitment to learning and excellence continues through the very last day.
I would also like to give a special shout-out to our 8th Grade Trailblazers. We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished during your time at MWMS. As you prepare to take the next step into high school, know that you will always be part of the MWMS family. We wish you continued success and look forward to seeing the amazing things you will accomplish in the years ahead.
Thank you for all you do to support your child, our staff, and our school community. Let's work together to finish the year with strong attendance, positive energy, and Trailblazer pride.
Finish strong, MWMS!
With appreciation,
Marcus Whitman Middle School Administration
Kiwanis Student of the Month — Maddie Bell
We are proud to recognize Maddie Bell as our Kiwanis Student of the Month.
Maddie is a shining example of perseverance, growth, and character. Over the past three years, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her education and personal development. Through hard work, determination, and a positive attitude, Maddie has achieved the significant milestone of successfully exiting math support as an 8th grader—a testament to the dedication she has shown throughout her middle school journey. One of Maddie's greatest strengths is the ownership she takes over her learning. She advocates for herself, seeks help when needed, and approaches challenges with confidence and determination. As she has grown academically, she has also grown as a leader, becoming more confident, more engaged, and more willing to step outside of her comfort zone in pursuit of success.
Beyond the classroom, Maddie is known for her kindness and positive influence on others. She is welcoming to everyone she meets and has built strong relationships with both students and staff. Her compassion, loyalty, and genuine care for others make her a trusted friend and a valued member of our school community.
What truly sets Maddie apart is the joy and positivity she brings to those around her. She consistently leads by example, making responsible choices and treating others with kindness and respect. Her warm personality and encouraging spirit help create a school environment where others feel valued, included, and supported.
Maddie embodies the qualities of a Trailblazer through her perseverance, leadership, and commitment to doing what is right. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and grateful for the positive impact she has on our school community.
Congratulations, Maddie! We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition.

Chromebook Return
Monday, June 8th and Tuesday, June 9th
Starting June 8th, we will be having students turn in their devices during their ELA classes. Next year, we are going away from individual check out and back to storing Chromebooks in the classrooms.
Students should prepare for this return by:
· Charging it fully the night before.
· Wiping down the Chromebook with a computer cleaning wipe.
· Wrap your charging cord using the attached Velcro or a rubber band to secure it.
· Cleaning out all personal items from the case.
· Remove wireless mouse usb fobs.
As each student entered the 6th grader and all new students after that were issued a Chromebook, Chromebook Case, and charging cord. Please ensure your child has all of these items ready for turn in. If the student is unable to locate items, these fines will be issued:
$250 Lost Chromebook
$22 Lost Chromebook Case
$15 Lost Chromebook Charger
In addition, devices will be checked for damage. We are not charging for cosmetic damages, such as scuffs on the plastic. However, we will be issuing fines for:
· $27 fine for plastic damage that exposes internal wiring
· $40 fine for damage to the screen (This does NOT include that strange scuffing that happened from cleaning them a few years ago)
· $46 for missing keys on the keyboard. Failure to report keys that fall off at the time, results in damage to the key bed, making them unreplaceable.
Devices not returned at the end of the school year will also be locked by the district and unusable.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Chang at chang@skschools.org or via ParentSquare.
News from the Nurse
IMMUNIZATIONS:
Tdap requirement for students entering 7th grade next year:
In Washington State, the Tdap vaccine is required for school attendance in certain grades. The Tdap is a booster vaccine which continues to protect your child against the tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis diseases they were immunized against as young child.
For students entering 7th grade, the Tdap vaccine must be given at or after age 10 to be accepted for school entry. To update your child’s Tdap immunization record at the school, you will need to turn in a medically verified immunization record. Your child’s health care provider can print this for you, or you can print it from MyIR, which is a free Department of Health online tool that allows families to view and print their official immunization records themselves.
Go to https://wa.myir.net/register to begin the sign-up process.
MEDICATION PICK UP:
If your child has medication at the school, it will need to be picked up no later than JUNE 11th. Medications not picked up by this date will be discarded.
